Travelling with type 1 diabetes can feel a bit like an obstacle course! For us, it’s more than just remembering our passport; We have to:
Take all our insulin and backup supplies in our hand luggage, making sure there’s enough, and that stays cool for the whole trip
Have a doctors note ready, just in case there are questions about diabetes supplies and medications
Running through an endless list of “what ifs” at security
Making sure devices don’t go through x-ray machines
Explain (sometimes anxiously!) to airport security why you or your diabetes tech can’t go through x-ray machines
The rush to grab everything at the end to re-pack it!!
And then if you have more than one stopover, you have to do this more than once!😅
What are your tips for making the experience of airport security smoother for someone with T1D?
Do you have any stories about your experiences of travelling with T1D?
